Fuel System
Today’s fuel is not what it used to be. Ethanol and alcohol reduces fuel mileage by 20%. Since the late 1970’s the EPA decided that fuel could not be vented into the atmosphere and so the vapors were vented to canisters and re-burned in your vehicles engine. These days what is now called the evaporative systems, control all that. And if any of you have left your gas cap loose you know that this will trigger the Check Engine Light on your dash, just like the thousands of other driveability failures can also do, on these super-smart and highly technicial vehicles. Of course fuel is important and we highly recommend keeping your tank above half. The fuel pumps on most vehicles are in the fuel tank and the fuel cools and lubricates the pump. Low fuel levels can shorten the life of an electric pump considerably if you run it low or out of fuel often.
